{"id":25,"date":"2015-05-22T02:47:27","date_gmt":"2015-05-22T02:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dixielang.com\/shelldrakeconsulting\/?page_id=25"},"modified":"2022-03-15T22:50:56","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T22:50:56","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/dixielang.com\/shelldrakeconsulting\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About Dixie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dixie Lang has a wide background with experience in both public and private sectors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Web Design<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dixie has designed, built, and maintained both private and public websites since 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Her experience ranges from one-page websites to sites with hundreds of pages.\u00a0 She has also designed and built a number of web-based applications, including a faculty voting system, a help desk system, a content management system, and an appointment booking system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WordPress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She designed and built her first WordPress website in 2007.\u00a0 Since then, she has built over 60 WordPress websites for a variety of clients including non-profits, university departments, research labs, and small businesses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Training<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dixie taught her first software class in 1988, and has been teaching one-on-one or group classes ever since.<\/p>\n<p>She began teaching WordPress in 2011, and later founded the University of Wisconsin-Madison Russell Labs WordPress User Group.<\/p>\n<p>Her extensive background in technical writing complements her training skills.\u00a0 She writes and illustrates her own training materials, and has created video tutorials.<\/p>\n<p>She taught software at both Madison Area Technical College and University of Wisconsin-Madison.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dixie worked in both public and private sector information technology for over 30 years. Her employers included a Fortune 500 insurance company and a Big-10 University (University of Wisconsin-Madison).\u00a0 She focused on management information systems \u2013 \u201cthe business side of IT.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her roles included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IT management and strategic planning<\/li>\n<li>software \u2013 project management; systems analysis; application, interface, and database design; programming; testing; implementation<\/li>\n<li>technical writing<\/li>\n<li>technical training and instructional media development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dixie&#8217;s educational credentials include a certificate in Graphic Design, a certificate in Web Business and a diploma in Paralegal Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Through Coursera, she took business classes at University of Michigan and Wharton School of Business, and audited a number of iMBA marketing classes and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, she studied commercial art at Madison Area Technical College, illustration at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and web design at Parson\u2019s The New School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dixie Lang has a wide background with experience in both public and private sectors.
