About Dixie

Dixie Lang has a wide background with experience in both public and private sectors.

Web Design

Dixie has designed, built, and maintained both private and public websites since 1997.

Her experience ranges from one-page websites to sites with hundreds of pages.  She has also designed and built a number of web-based applications, including a faculty voting system, a help desk system, a content management system, and an appointment booking system.

WordPress

She designed and built her first WordPress website in 2007.  Since then, she has built over 60 WordPress websites for a variety of clients including non-profits, university departments, research labs, and small businesses.

Training

Dixie taught her first software class in 1988, and has been teaching one-on-one or group classes ever since.

She began teaching WordPress in 2011, and later founded the University of Wisconsin-Madison Russell Labs WordPress User Group.

Her extensive background in technical writing complements her training skills.  She writes and illustrates her own training materials, and has created video tutorials.

She taught software at both Madison Area Technical College and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Information Technology

Dixie worked in both public and private sector information technology for over 30 years. Her employers included a Fortune 500 insurance company and a Big-10 University (University of Wisconsin-Madison).  She focused on management information systems – “the business side of IT.”

Her roles included:

  • IT management and strategic planning
  • software – project management; systems analysis; application, interface, and database design; programming; testing; implementation
  • technical writing
  • technical training and instructional media development

Education

Dixie’s educational credentials include a certificate in Graphic Design, a certificate in Web Business and a diploma in Paralegal Studies.

Through Coursera, she took business classes at University of Michigan and Wharton School of Business, and audited a number of iMBA marketing classes and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Additionally, she studied commercial art at Madison Area Technical College, illustration at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and web design at Parson’s The New School.
